Unpacking and Setup

Unpack and inspect all contents. Place on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Connect Power: Plug the AC adapter into the DC IN jack on the side of the unit, then plug into a standard wall outlet.
  2. Load Tape: Open the cassette cover and insert a compatible TZe tape cassette (see Section 4).
  3. Power On: Press the POWER button. The LCD will illuminate.
  4. Set Language/Units: Use the FUNCTION key to access the initial setup menu if needed.

WARNING! Use only the specified Brother AC adapter (AD-24). Do not use near water or extreme heat.

Loading the Tape Cassette

Ensure the power is OFF before loading or changing tape.

  1. Open the cassette cover by pressing the cover release button.
  2. Insert the tape cassette with the tape end feeding towards the slot and the Brother logo facing up. Push firmly until it clicks into place.
  3. Close the cassette cover until it snaps shut.
  4. Power on the unit. The tape width will be detected and displayed.

CAUTION! Do not force the cassette. Ensure it is oriented correctly to avoid jamming.

Controls and Settings

Access functions via dedicated keys or the FUNCTION menu. Front Panel: POWER, NUMBER keys, LETTER keys, SPACE, BACKSPACE, CLEAR, PRINT.

Function Key (FUNC): Accesses menus for Font, Size, Style, Frame, Tape Width, Setup.

Formatting: Font (Gothic, Sans Serif, Script), Size (Auto, Small, Large), Style (Bold, Italic, Underline, Outline). Decoration: Frames (over 100 styles), Tape Settings (auto-cut, length, mirror print). Setup: Language, Units (mm/inch), Sound (On/Off), LCD contrast, Reset.

Creating a Basic Label

Power on and ensure tape is loaded.

  1. Enter Text: Type desired label text using the keyboard.
  2. Preview: Text appears on the LCD display.
  3. Format (Optional): Press FUNC, then select Font, Size, or Style. Press OK to apply.
  4. Print: Press the PRINT key. The label will print and be automatically cut to length.
  5. Peel & Apply: Peel the backing from the printed label and apply to a clean, dry surface.

Tip: Use the SPACE key for gaps. Press BACKSPACE to correct mistakes.

Advanced Formatting Options

Enhance labels with frames, serial numbers, and special layouts.

  1. Frames/Borders: Press FUNC > Frame. Browse categories and select a frame.
  2. Serial Numbering: Press FUNC > Numering. Set start value, increment, and quantity.
  3. Mirror Printing: Press FUNC > Tape Setting > Mirror Print (for application on glass or from the reverse side).
  4. Vertical Text: Select a font that supports vertical orientation in the Font menu.
  5. Multiple Lines: Use the ENTER key to move the cursor to the next line.

Note: Some features may be limited by tape width.

Power Options

AC Power: Use the included AD-24 adapter for continuous use. Battery: Install the optional PA-130 battery pack for portability.

Battery Installation: Power off. Open battery cover on bottom. Insert battery pack with contacts aligned. Close cover.

Low Battery Indicator: A battery icon will flash on the LCD when power is low. Recharge using the AC adapter.

Care & Maintenance

Unplug the AC adapter before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Never use liquids or sprays.

Print Head Cleaning: If print quality declines, use the included cleaning rod. Power off. Open cassette cover. Gently wipe the silver print head with the rod. Close cover.

CAUTION! Do not touch the print head with fingers. Store in a cool, dry place.
