Getting Started

Prepare the label maker for first use.

  1. Power the unit: Connect the AC adapter to the port and a wall outlet. Alternatively, install 6 AA batteries.
  2. Install tape cassette: Open the cassette cover, insert the tape with the window facing up, and close the cover firmly.
  3. Turn ON: Slide the power switch to the ON position. The LCD will illuminate.
  4. Set language/units: Use the FUNCTION key to access settings for language, tape width, and measurement units.

CAUTION! Use only Brother TZ series tape cassettes. Incorrect tape may cause jamming.

Basic Label Creation

Create and print a simple label.

  1. Turn on the label maker and ensure tape is loaded.
  2. Type text using the keyboard. Use DEL or BS to correct mistakes.
  3. Press FONT to select a font style (e.g., Gothic, Script).
  4. Press SIZE to adjust text size. The LCD shows a preview.
  5. Press FRAME to add a decorative border if desired.
  6. Press PRINT. The label prints and automatically cuts if Auto-cut is ON.

Tip: Press the CUT key after printing if Auto-cut is disabled to manually cut the tape.

Advanced Features

  1. Serial Numbering: Press FUNCTION, select SERIAL, enter start number, quantity, and increment value.
  2. Mirror Printing: Press FUNCTION, select MIRROR to print reversed text (for application on glass or transparent surfaces).
  3. Memory Storage: After creating a label, press FUNCTION then MEMORY to store it. Recall with RECALL key.
  4. Symbols: Press SYMBOL to browse and insert symbols, arrows, or icons.
  5. Text Effects: Use STYLE for underline, outline, shadow, or vertical text orientation.
  6. Tape Length Check: Press FUNCTION then LENGTH to see required tape length before printing.

WARNING! For mirror printing, use compatible transparent tape. Test on a small area first.

Tape Cassette Installation

Correct installation ensures proper printing and feeding.

  1. Turn off the label maker.
  2. Press the cassette cover release button and open the cover.
  3. Insert the tape cassette with the Brother logo facing up and the tape end feeding toward the cutter.
  4. Close the cover firmly until it clicks.
  5. Turn on the unit. The LCD will show the detected tape width.

CAUTION! Do not force the cassette. Ensure it is fully seated before closing the cover.

Care & Maintenance

Unplug or remove batteries before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Clean the cutter blade occasionally with a cotton swab if adhesive residue builds up.

CAUTION! Do not use liquids, solvents, or abrasive cleaners. Avoid getting dust or debris inside the tape compartment.
