Unpacking and Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Insert batteries: Open battery compartment on bottom, insert 6 AA batteries observing correct polarity.
  2. Connect AC adapter (optional): Plug adapter into DC IN jack and then into a wall outlet.
  3. Load tape cassette: See next section.
  4. Power on: Press the POWER button. The display will illuminate.

WARNING! Use only Brother TZe tape cassettes. Using incompatible tapes may damage the printer mechanism.

Loading the Tape Cassette

Ensure the power is OFF before loading or unloading tape.

  1. Open the cassette cover: Slide the cover release latch and lift the cover open.
  2. Insert the cassette: Place the TZe cassette into the compartment with the tape end feeding towards the print slot. Ensure it clicks into place.
  3. Close the cover: Firmly press down the cover until it clicks shut.
  4. Feed the tape: Turn the power ON. The machine may automatically feed a short length of tape. If not, press the FEED button to advance the tape to the cutter blade.

CAUTION! Do not force the cassette or cover. Never touch the print head.

Creating a Basic Label

Follow these steps to create and print a simple text label.

  1. Power on the P-touch.
  2. Type your text: Use the keyboard. The text appears on the LCD.
  3. Format text (optional): Press FONT to change style, SIZE to change character size.
  4. Preview length: Check the tape length counter on the display.
  5. Print: Press the PRINT key. The label will print and automatically cut.
  6. Peel and apply: Peel the backing paper from the printed label and apply it to a clean, dry surface.

Tip: Press FEED to advance tape without printing. Use DEL to correct mistakes.

Advanced Formatting Options

Enhance your labels with frames, symbols, and special formatting.

  1. Frames: Press FRAME repeatedly to cycle through border options (box, underline, etc.).
  2. Symbols: Press SYMBOL, then use the arrow keys to browse and select an icon. Press ENTER to insert.
  3. Multiple Lines: Press ENTER to move the cursor to a new line within the same label.
  4. Auto Numbering: Access via FUNCTION key to create sequential number labels.
  5. Mirror Printing: For printing labels to be viewed from the opposite side (e.g., inside a window).

Note: Some formatting options may not be available for all tape widths.

Care & Maintenance

Unplug adapter/remove batteries before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior.

Print Head Cleaning: If print quality declines, use a dry cotton swab to gently wipe the metal print head inside the cassette compartment.
