Unpacking and Setup

Unpack and inspect all contents. Place on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Insert batteries: Open battery compartment on back, insert 6 AA batteries (not included), observing polarity.
  2. Connect AC adapter (optional): Plug adapter into DC IN 6V port and into a wall outlet.
  3. Load tape cartridge: Press cartridge release lever, insert tape, push until it clicks.
  4. Power on: Press the POWER key.

WARNING! Use only Brother TZe tape cartridges. Incorrect tape may jam the mechanism.

First-Time Use

Power on the label maker; the display will show the default text entry screen.

  1. Set language: Press FUNCTION, then use cursor to select LANGUAGE, choose ENGLISH.
  2. Set font style/size: Press FUNCTION, select FONT, choose from available options (e.g., Arial, Times).
  3. Type text: Use keyboard to enter desired label text; display shows preview.
  4. Print label: Press PRINT; the label will be fed out and cut automatically.
  5. Apply label: Peel backing from printed label and apply to clean, dry surface.

Loading Tape Cartridges

Only use genuine Brother TZe tape cartridges.

  1. Turn power OFF.
  2. Press the cartridge release lever on the top of the unit; the old cartridge (if any) will pop up.
  3. Remove old cartridge.
  4. Insert new cartridge with tape feed towards the front (print head) and label facing up.
  5. Push firmly until it clicks into place.
  6. Close the release lever.

Tip: Ensure the tape is feeding smoothly and is not twisted inside the compartment.

Creating Labels

Supports text, symbols, sequential numbering, and decorative frames.

  1. Power on and ensure tape is loaded.
  2. Press F then FONT to select style and size.
  3. Type text using keyboard.
  4. To add a frame: Press F, select FRAME, browse and select a frame.
  5. Preview: Display shows formatted text and estimated label length.
  6. Print: Press PRINT. Label prints and is cut automatically if AUTO CUT is on.
  7. Manual cut: If AUTO CUT is off, press the cutter lever after printing.
  8. To print multiple copies: After typing, press F, select QUANTITY, enter number (1-9), then PRINT.

WARNING! Do not pull tape during printing; allow the mechanism to feed it.

Advanced Functions

Sequential Numbering: Press F, select NUMBERING, set start value and increment. Print multiple labels in sequence. Mirror Printing: For application on inside surfaces (e.g., windows). Press F, select MIRROR. Memory: Store up to 9 frequently used labels in memory slots (F > MEMORY).

Care & Maintenance

Turn off and remove batteries for long-term storage. Clean exterior with dry, soft cloth. Never use liquids or aerosols.

CAUTION! Keep tape cartridges and unit away from extreme heat, cold, or humidity. Replace cutter blade if it becomes dull (contact Brother service).
